It's getting closer to Christmas now - the big man in the red suit will be here soon! I think I'm managing my diabetes quite well now. Having no problems with keeping it stable - I have had the odd wee sweet thing but it seems to be going ok. I am looking forward to Christmas day because I am allowing myself a piece of mummys-homemade pavlova after the big turkey dinner - my consultant said I could increase my insulin dose at lunchtime to allow for it so I'm definitely gonna do it lol. Unfortunately I cant do this all the time but a wee treat is worth it.

Went Christmas shopping yesterday - helping Santa with ideas for my boys lol! Had no problems with my diabetes thankfully. The day before I had picked Jamie up from school at 1.50pm as he finished early and I went to the shopping centre. Unfortunately I had my worst hypo yet, I felt sweaty and shaky so I took my blood sugar and it was 2.8!!! Immediately threw the jelly babies and a drink of lucozade into me. Thankfully it went back up quickly. I was really bad last night, I had a chinese (which was lovely) and my blood sugar was a wee bit higher but it was worth it lol. I have a lot of studying to do today.

Got up this morning and my blood sugar was 6.6!!! Yay! I'm back to normal. I'm supposed to be between 5-7 so that's good. Had my Novorapid injection and sat down to my breakfast - porridge and toast. Would give anything for a big fry now lol

Just got my new carry case for my insulin today. Got it off ebay for £25. It's fantastic, holds my 2 pens and 2 spares, loads of needles, my emergency gel and my emergency jab (incase I go unconscious). Fantastic!
I found out in March 2011 that I had diabetes. At that time I was diagnosed as type 2 so I was immediately put onto Metformin tablets 500mg per day, increasing to 1000mg per day after 2 weeks.

Things were fine for a couple of months and in July I began a gym program to lose weight. Immediately my blood glucose levels shot up and for the next few months nothing would fix that sugar level. We tried increasing tablets until the doctor decided I was metformin-resistant!!! I began Glicazide, which was supposed to bring my levels down immediately (and me being me, it didnt work!).

My GP referred me to the specialist in the diabetes clinic in the local hospital and they decided I was type 1 and not type 2! I was started in insulin immediately and now I am learning how to balance my carbohydrate levels against the insulin intake!
